Novel slow–fast behaviour in an oscillator driven by a frequency-switching force

چکیده

When an oscillator switches abruptly between different frequencies, there is some ambiguity in deciding how the system should be modelled at switch. Here we describe two seemingly natural models of a switch simple periodically-forced harmonic oscillator, which disagree starkly their predictions its long time behaviour. Attempting to resolve disagreement by ‘regularizing’ not only preserves disagreement, but shows it increases with time. One corresponds conventional ‘Filippov’ description nonsmooth system, while second exhibits structure that irreversibly ages, developing number novel multi-scale behaviours believe have been reported before. These include slow–fast staircases, mixed-mode oscillations, and synchronized canard explosion. features are proven exist using asymptotic analysis, as they involve time-scale separation time, lie beyond reach numerical methods.

Frequency–driven chaos in the electrical circuit of Duffing-Holmes oscillator and its control

Accurate detection of weak periodic signals within noise and possibility of secure messaging have made Duffing oscillator (DO) highly important in the field of communication. Investigation on the properties of DO is thus ardently sought for. An elegant approach to accomplish the same is to fabricate electronic circuit simulating DO non-linear equation and to study the effect of input signal amp...

Frequency Switching of Quantum Harmonic Oscillator with time-dependent frequency

An explicit solution of the equation for the classical harmonic oscillator with smooth switching of the frequency has been found . A detailed analysis of a quantum harmonic oscillator with such frequency has been done on the base of the method of linear invariants. It has been shown that such oscillator possesses cofluctuant states, different from widely studied Glauber’s coherent and ”ideal” s...

Antiferromagnetic THz-frequency Josephson-like Oscillator Driven by Spin Current

The development of compact and tunable room temperature sources of coherent THz-frequency signals would open a way for numerous new applications. The existing approaches to THz-frequency generation based on superconductor Josephson junctions (JJ), free electron lasers, and quantum cascades require cryogenic temperatures or/and complex setups, preventing the miniaturization and wide use of these...

Fast Switching Dual-Frequency Liquid Crystal Optical Retarder, Driven by an Amplitude and Frequency Modulated Voltage

We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally a fast-switching nematic optical retarder capable to switch a few microns of optical retardation in less than 1 ms. For example, a nematic cell of thickness 14.5 mm switches 0.3 mm of retardation within 0.15 ms and 2.5 mm within 0.5 ms for single passage of beam. The corresponding figure of merit is two orders of magnitude higher than the one know...
